Merton: From Jazz to Chant at St. Francis on Bardstown Rd

This is a special show. Thomas Merton enjoyed jazz before he entered the Trappist monastery and learned the joy of chant during his sojourn at the Abbey of Gethsemani. Enjoy both jazz and chant from Merton’s era as you discover the connection between these two music styles.

A quartet consisting of Chuck Marohnic on piano, Jacob Duncan on sax, Chris Fitzgerald on bass and Jason Tiemann on drums will be joined by monks from St. Meinrad.

Aebersold Camp Profs in Free Show at UofL’s Comstock Hall

Three groups of musicians in town to teach at Jamey Aebersold’s Jazz Camp will perform Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at Comstock (on Wednesday there’s a gig at Masterson’s).
