Jazz Under the Dome

A festival featuring six excellent regional acts from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning at the West Baden Springs Hotel in the French Lick Resort.

Everett Green (Indianapolis)
Friday, August 21 • 5pm – 9pm
Everett Green’s résumé reads like a who’s who of modern jazz. He has been the featured vocalist with not only notable Hoosiers, but at famed music venues all over the world. Green’s vocal stylings have accompanied Wes Montgomery, the Count Basie Orchestra, Snooky Young and The Buselli/Wallarab Jazz Orchestra. He has performed on stages as varied as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Indianapolis Jazz Festival and the World Music Festival in Japan.

Monika Herzig Group (Bloomington)
Friday, August 21 • 9pm – Midnight
Monika Herzig is a German-born pianist, composer, recording artist and Indiana University faculty member. Often playing around Indianapolis and Bloomington, Herzig has recorded with the fusion group BeebleBrox and produced four albums as leader of the Monika Herzig Acoustic Project. Musically, she is more analytical than most and displays this through unusual chord changes and harmonic twists.

John Bizianes (Louisville)
Saturday, August 22 • 10am – 1pm
Sunday, August 23 • 10am – 1pm

Fluent in the language of music, Bizianes “speaks” piano. He has made a living from music for more than thirty years, and is passionate about teaching people to play and perform a blend of classical and inventive styles. Always the southern gentleman, Bizianes’ playing reflects a smooth technical proficiency underneath soloists and a gentle improvisational groove when it’s his turn in the spotlight – always making sure that the crowd enjoys the show.

Squeeze-bot (Louisville)
Saturday, August 22 • 1pm – 4pm
As the name suggests, Squeeze Bot has an accordion. Accordions are most notably used in polka music however Squeeze Bot combines other under-rated instruments the banjo, tuba and tiny drum set making a sound unlike any other. This is jazz like you’ve never heard it before and a definite must-see.

The Sarah Stivers Group (French Lick)
Saturday, August 22 • 5pm – 9pm
From France to French Lick, singer, bandleader and entertainment designer Sarah Stivers has engaged audiences the world over. These days Stivers brings her musical talents and clean, clear, sexy voice to venues throughout southern Indiana and the Louisville area. Heard and seen weekly at French Lick Resort, Stivers and her group are the best in versatile crowd pleasers while wielding serious musical chops. Their repertoire includes music from Mozart to Maroon 5 with an emphasis on jazz vocal standards.

Phil DeGreg Trio (Cincinnati)
Saturday, August 22 • 9pm – Midnight
Internationally known pianist, Phil DeGreg is accomplished in a wide range of jazz styles, from mainstream to bebop and Brazilian. His versatility has led to professional gigs with Jamey Aebersold, Tim Ries, Bobby Shew, Woody Herman, Nelson Rangel and others. He has been the house pianist at Cincinnati’s Blue Wisp Jazz Club, received two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and was named a finalist in The Great American Jazz Piano Competition and Jazziz Magazine’s “Keys on Fire” contest. Currently teaching jazz studies at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music, he received a masters’ degree from the University of North Texas and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship.
