
The Jamey Aebersold Scholarship Award was created by the Louisville Jazz Society. First presented in 2025, it honors a deserving Kentuckiana based person studying instrumental jazz performance, education, or composition at the collegiate level (undergraduate or graduate study).
The winner is announced by the Aebersold Scholarship Committee, a subcommittee of the LJS Honors and Recognition Committee, at the at the Jamey Aebersold Birthday Celebration and Jam Session held each July.
Criteria for Award Recipients
- Candidates may be nominated (including self nomination) by any member in good standing of the Louisville Jazz Society. Not a member? Click here to join!
- This scholarship is open to those residing in or attending a collegiate jazz studies program in the Louisville-Jefferson County Metropolitan Statistical Area, including the following counties:
- Kentucky: Bullitt, Henry, Jefferson, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, and Shelby
- Indiana: Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Scott, and Washington
Submissions Must Include
- Name, email, phone, instrument(s), and college or university attending
- A performance video of the nominee
- One to three letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors
- A letter of nomination (a statement describing the nominee’s background in music and plans for further study)
Each candidate must submit all required information and materials by 12pm EDT June 28, 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.
