Brazilian Drummer Edu Ribeiro Concert

Master Brazilian Drummer Edu Ribeiro will be presenting a concert in the Bird Recital Hall at the University of Louisville School of Music on Monday, September 23 at 7 pm. He is performing with his trio featuring Noah Garabedian (bass) and Vinicius Gomes (guitar). Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.

Edu Ribeiro is one of the most in-demand drummers in the world today. Ribeiro is a two-time Grammy Award winning Brazilian musician, drummer, composer, and educator. Edu Ribeiro holds a Bachelor’s degree in Popular Music from UNICAMP, a Post Graduate degree in Education from UNIP, and a Master’s degree in Music from the Federal University of Bahia – UFBA. He has participated in dozens of albums as a collaborator and his most recent project, the Edu Ribeiro Trio (which he started in 2022), has already toured the US and Europe, receiving wide and enthusiastic critical acclaim. Edu Ribeiro has worked alongside some of the most important jazz and Brazilian artists such as Ivan Lins, Hamilton de Hollanda, Stacey Kent, Maria Schneider, Brad Mehldau, Randy Brecker, Paquito D’Rivera, Sadao Watanabe, Mike Stern, João Bosco, Yamandu Costa, Leny Andrade, Susana Stivalli and Mônica Salmaso, among many others. He is a founding member of the groups Trio Corrente, and Vento em Madeira, which together have more than ten albums released, and countless performances on four continents. Ribeiro is a committed educator at EMESP/Tom Jobim (the São Paulo State School of Music), and at Faculdade Santa Marcelina. He has taught classes and workshops around the world at prestigious institutions such as the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, and the École de Musique Didier Lockwood. This year, Edu Ribeiro was a nominee for Best Latin Jazz Album with Luciana Souza and Trio Corrente for their collaboration, Cometa. He has a nomination for his 2019 album album Folia de Reis, and participated in Eliane Elias’ recordings Made in Brazil, and Dance of Time, both winners of Best Latin Jazz Album in 2016 and 2017, respectively. With Randy Brecker’s Randy in Brazil, Ribeiro took home the 2008 Best Contemporary Jazz Album.
