The Louisville Jazz Society features the Kendall Carter Trio for our final 2023 Signature Series concert. This promises to be a swinging evening of classic organ trio jazz performed by an all-star lineup!
Kendall Carter, Hammond Organ: Hammond Artist Kendall Carter is a formidable organist, pianist, composer, and educator hailing from Louisville, KY. Kendall has been provided the opportunity to work with many established instrumentalists & singers including NEA Jazz Master Jamey Aebersold, NEA Jazz Master Donald Harrison, Dave Stryker, Rob Dixon, Carmen Bradford, Tim Warfield, Mike Clark, Christian McBride, Bonnie Prince Billy and a host of others. His playing is deeply rooted in the gospel music tradition, but also draws influence from notable organists Jimmy McGriff, Charles Earland, and Shirley Scott.
Dan Wilson, Guitar: Growing up in Akron, Ohio, Dan Wilson spent the majority of his youth within the church community, where his musical path began. After graduating from Hiram College, Wilson made his recording debut with pianist Joe McBride and performed to worldwide acclaim with Joey DeFrancesco and Christian McBride’s Tip City, eventually recording his debut as a leader To Whom It May Concern.
Frank Morrison, Drums: Morrison’s talents were recognized early on while growing up in his family church. He developed quickly as a result of having a musical family. He later graduated from Morgan Park High School where he was acknowledged for his Leadership skills and participation in many of Chicago’s most notable Jazz programs such as CYSO, Jazz institute of Chicago’s Jazz Ambassadors, Ravinia Jazz Scholars, and Gallery 37. Since then, Morrison has worked with many top tier musicians by the likes of Wadada Leo Smith, Ernest Dawkins, Mario Abney, Micah Collier, Dee Alexander, and many more.
