Bassist Tyrone Wheeler leads his group 502 Vintage Keys in a tribute to his teacher and mentor, David Baker: world-renowned trailblazer in jazz education, jazz cellist, and prodigious composer.

Tyrone Wheeler is recognized as one of the leading acoustic and electric bassists in the region. He is a master of all styles and his diverse performing skills have placed him on stage with artists such as Cab Calloway, David Liebman, Slide Hampton, J.J. Johnson, and Buddy Rich, to mention but a few.

502 Vintage Keys also features Hunt Butler on saxes and flute, Diego Lyra on keys, and Ted Richardson on drums – all highly accomplished players in their own right. The group covers a wide range of styles, with an emphasis on contemporary jazz and jazz-fusion.  The concert will also feature jazz cellist Ella Wise, who studied with Baker as well.

In addition to their usual repertoire, the group will be performing compositions by David Baker as well as the famed Indianapolis trombonist, J.J. Johnson.
