Join us at the Mellwood Art Center as we present The Jamey Aebersold Jazz Quartet, performing jazz standards from The Great American Songbook. The quartet consists of Jamey Aebersold on sax, Wade Honey on piano, Tyrone Wheeler on bass, and Jonathan Higgins on drums.
Local treasure Jamey Aebersold is an internationally recognized musician best known for his “Play-A-Longs,” a method of teaching jazz for beginners and professionals alike, which have sold more than 5 million copies worldwide. More than 50 years after its original publication, Aebersold continues to advocate for music and arts education.
In 1989, Aebersold was inducted into the International Association for Jazz Education Hall of Fame and in 2004 the Jazz Midwest Clinic honored him with the Medal of Honor in jazz education. Aebersold has taught at three colleges and universities in the Louisville, Kentucky, area, and in 1992 he received an honorary doctorate of music from Indiana University. He continues to teach, conduct jazz clinics around the country, and perform as leader of the Jamey Aebersold Quartet in addition to running Jamey Aebersold Jazz.
